w/c 15th July - 5 things this week
1. Quiksilver, Roxy & Element to be globally headquartered in SW France
Boardsport Source has a short interview with Boardrider’s Europe CEO, Nicolas Foulet, giving some insight as to the future of the brand portfolio as French fashion company, Beaumanoir Group, licenses the brands activities for 15 years. Read the interview here
2. 11 days to go until the Olympic surf contest
With the prospect of minimal surf in France for the Olympics, organisers planned the event in French Polynesia, more specifically Tahiti. Surfer.com is winding up the Olympic hype machine with a daily blog from the lagoon at Teahupoo as Olympic surfers prepare to perform in front of the world’s sporting media with a waiting period for the best conditions from 27th July to 5th August. It is, without a doubt, one of the heaviest, scariest, most dangerous waves in the entire world. Game on!
It’s not been a good week for XC racing as Jolanda Neff has confirmed she will not race in Paris due to breathing problems causing her to reduce her training load, consequently she’s not in the form required to race at Olympic level. Additionally, British multi discipline bike racer, Tom Pidcock has pulled out of the Tour de France due to Covid putting his upcoming Olympic XC title defence in jeopardy.
4. Video (1m24secs) : LeBron James X Canyon bikes
LeBron became a minority shareholder in Canyon back in 2022 so it was only a matter of time until the brand rolled out a campaign using their NBA star, thankfully it appears to align closely with ‘King’ James’ upbringing on a bike and his desire to inspire the next generation of athletes. Check the video above.
5. Ford Transit Supervan goes fastest up the hill at Goodwood Festival of Speed
The similarities between the Transit pictured and the one at a dealer forecourt, stops at it’s name. The Ford E-Transit ‘Supervan’ is fully electric and has approx 1,300hp delivered by 4 electric motors and experiences 2 tonnes of downforce when it gets to 150mph. A tradies dream!
