w/c 2 Sept - 5 things this week
1. Anytime freeride mountain bike film
I caught a pre-release screening of this last night. Well worth a watch. Kade and Brage’s closing section is insane. Someone described this as the ‘Art of Flight’ for mountain biking, which judging by the amount of helicopters featured, is pretty bang on.
2. 02 Surftown Muc turns on the waves
Munich’s surfers have got Germany’s first, Europe’s largest, and the world’s first wave pool to feature Endless Surf technology. 14,000 people attended the opening weekend recently, hopefully giving region’s boardsport retailers a well needed shot in the arm. Check the opening party here.
3. DH Mountain Bike World Champions decided in Andorra
The racing in Andorra was fast and furious with some incredible stories. Vali Höll took her 3rd champs title in a row and Loris Vergier claimed his first one having come up short several times. Big shout to Greg Minnaar who declared this to be his 28th, and last tilt at a world title. Here’s a photo epic & custom bike check
4. Arc’teryx delivering strong revenue growth for parent company in Q2
Amer Sports reported 16% YOY sales growth in the quarter, reaching $994 million. DTC revenue was up by 40% to $449 million, and wholesale increased by 2% to $545 million. Arc’teryx opened 13 new stores in the quarter, including two in Paris in time for the Olympics and one in Toronto, bringing the total to 125. The brand will open its New York flagship in Soho in early September.
5. Dorna Sports extends deal to promote MotoGP until 2060
Dorna Sports has agreed a new long-term deal with the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) to continue promoting the MotoGP series until 2060. Dorna has promoted the MotoGP series since 1992, and this latest extension with the FIM is set to take its partnership to beyond 60 years.
