w/c 3rd June - 5 things this week
1. Red Bull Rampage to include women in 2024 and move to 2 day event
For the first time in the event’s history, Red Bull Rampage will see the world’s top men and women freeride athletes descend upon the rugged terrain of Virgin in Southwest Utah, as part of an expanded two-day event this October. The girls have been charging at Hardline for 2 years so it’s great (and overdue!) to see their inclusion at the world’s premier freeride event. Nevermind the official media channels, give these ladies a follow
2. Video (5min 11sec) adidas Skateboarding Presents /// TYSHAWN II: The Way You Walk
Skaters don’t hate. A super interesting, heartfelt and honest take on Tyshawn Jones’ mother’s influence on his career and motivation. Brilliantly shot and edited. You don’t need to be a skate nerd to enjoy this one.
3. New UK MTB Trail Alliance Gives Trail Stewards A Voice
As mountain biking has grown, the absence of a national body to advocate for the UK’s trails has left them unsupported and vulnerable. The UK MTB Trail Alliance now offers trail associations, bike parks and informal trail groups the chance to share knowledge and pool their influence. Read more here. (Hat tip to Hannah @ Singletrack)
4. FIS Recognises Freeride Skiing & Snowboarding as Official Disciplines
Having bought the Freeride World Tour in 2022, it was only a matter of time until FIS recognised freeriding as an ‘official’ discipline. This now gives the sport an official pathway into the Olympics.
Any company or organisation should be applauded for spending budget and resource on developing ways to reduce their impact on the environment, BUT… when you’re taking money from a fossil fuel company and recently announced a sponsorship from a bank that finances said fossil fuel industry, it’s a literal case study in greenwashing.
